There is an unrecoverable medium error detected on virtual disk: Virtual Disk 2 (NONE) Controller 0 (PERC S300)

Hi,

I have a PowerEdge 210 that has 2 physical hard drives, but wasn't configured to work with them as a raid.

Someone just brought to my attention that Windows' Event Viewer reports this error (quite often, btw): "There is an unrecoverable medium error detected on virtual disk:  Virtual Disk 2 (NONE) Controller 0 (PERC S300)."

Open Manage shows this:

Going into the PERC S300 branch of the tree shows a red "X" next to Virtual Disks, and going into the Virtual Disks branch shows this:

The only Tasks available for these two is "Delete." (Notice the sizes of the two "NONE" virtual disks - 0.01GB, which leads me to believe this is a mis-configuration issue).

Windows' disk management shows this:

I believe that one or more steps were missed when setting up the computer. Don't know if setting it up as non-raid was intentional (I wasn't the one who set this up), but at any rate, I don't think that there are virtual drives anywhere in this machine. Both physical hard drives were partitioned separately and partitioned (I don't know what was the original purpose of setting up an unused extended partition in Disk 0 above or an empty, unformatted, partition in Disk 1, also above).

My questions are:

1. Is it OK to just delete the virtual disks in OpenManage? I don't think there are any actual Virtual Disks anywhere.

2. Or should I just ignore these errors?

Note: The error reported on the controller itself is that its firmware is not up to date. No hardware issues present.

Thanks!

Alex
