I recently added a IDSDM module to a T420 server and installed FreeNAS onto the SD drive after building a redundant set. Initially both SD cards "failed" at the same time after a few hours of running. In addition to reseating the module and cards I then updated the SD module firmware to 1.10 A03 which is the latest I could find on the support firmware list. This seemed to improve reliability, but only for a few days of use. Twice now after ~40-48hrs of runtime one of the cards has reported an error and redundancy has been lost (first time SD2, this time SD1). At this point I'm frustrated enough to give up and switch to a small SSD, but I'm still curious what I might have done wrong.
- Both SD cards are brand new matching Samsung Evo 32GB cards (MB-MP32DA/AM).
- FreeNAS boots from these cards, but the syslog is on a separate drive so write frequency is very low. There are essentially no reads from the cards once the system has booted.
- When both cards failed I was able to remove and re-insert them and boot the OS again (though redundancy had to be rebuilt to SD2).
Any ideas? Thanks.
