PowerEdge C6100 does not see HDDs

Hello,

I could not solvethis on my own. I hope I can find some help here.

I have C6100 with 4 blades, 12 HDD slots. I'm trying to install an OS - I tried Windows (Server & 7) and various Linux distros. I tried swapping various HDDs in case one's broken, and I tried all 3 slots for that server blade.

I booted into Linux environment through a USB and fdisk -l didn't list any hard drives, only the partitions on the USB stick.

The green light on the HDD caddy comes on, but I can't detect the drive through software. I can't see them in the boot menu either.

What could be the issue?

I believe I do not have a RAID controller, but it was my understanding that I could still use the HDD slots without RAID? As a JBOD, if that's proper to call it?

I might be doing something stupidly wrong. Firstly, I would like to check properly if I do indeed lack a RAID controller. And if I do or do not, how do I install an OS? I have Windows Server 2012 R2, so let's say I want that. What would I need to do?

Alternatively, I read that one guy just wasn't inserting the hard drive caddies deep enough. How do I check? The light comes and and they don't go any deeper with any reasonable force. Just to avoid something silly like this.

Thank you. I can provide more info if you tell me which.
