I've tried to add 2 more 2TB drives to an R710 with PERC 6/i (3.5" bays), but I can't get the disks to be available to create a new raid array from. It currently has 2 2TB drives in bay 0 & 1 which have a raid 1 setup, so the total storage on the server is 2TB. I got 2 other 2TB drives which I was hoping to put into another raid. If I go into crtl-r and go to the "PD Mgmt" tab, I can see all 4 drives in there, the original 2 have the status "Online" but the new 2 have the status "Ready" and if I press F2 the only option is to enable led blinking and make global hotswap. If I go back to the "VD Mgmt" tab and expand physical disks, I only see the first two (disk 0 & 1) but not the other two. If I make global hotswap I see them as hotswap drives but this is not what I want as it's not usable space. I've got no option like import foreign config or similar. The drives are all in genuine Dell caddys. All drives have the top green light at all time, I've run diagnostics on the disks and both have passed. There are no errors on the drives at all.
Also in the "PD Mgmt" page the options to make the disk online are greyed out. I've tried with the drives in all available slots. I know these servers don't support drives larger than 2TB without a firmware upgrade, so these should work, the drives are out of an old NAS and the NAS was reading and writing fine, disks were working as they should.
Something must be wrong, this shouldn't be so difficult to set up, but I'm at a complete loss, I've spent ages researching, but can only find solutions involving foreign disk issues or coming up as missing or errors in raid 5 which is not how my configuration is at all...
Hope someone can help, this is a production server for the charity and has put a real spanner in the works!
Cheers
