Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can help me with probably broken RAID1 setup, after many attempts to fixing it, I decide I want zap whole setup and start from scratch, after clearing configuration I'm not able to select disks and create new array. Please see following photo:

This server use SCSI disks, is there any way to clear previous array settings and wipe all disks?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Poweredge R900 no video signal

Hi,

I got two used Poweredge R900 servers.

One works fine, the other one turns on, fans blow, no error message on the smalll display, but I wasn't able to see anything on the screen.

If I take out the disk drive, I get a E1812 error on the display, and when I put it back the error disappears.

Since they were delivered by UPS, something could be loose.

Any idea what? I tried to push everything into its place.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

For my AS180 KVM i've tried to apply the latest firmware R173924, via RS232 cable from w2k r2 64bit.

The update returned the time-out error while upgrading; now my kvm no longer works.

I've tried running the update again and again... same error

If you have any advice.

thank you

Raid troubles / potential bad drive or controller

I help out a small business with their servers. I get a call this morning that their Dell 400SC (obtained 2003-ish / Win 2000 server) is screaming bloody murder. It's up and functioning best I can tell.

I have them reboot and Ctrl-M into the raid utility to silence the alarm (cheers in the background)

I have them get into the utility's physical drive area and it looks like I have Channel-3 failure

Channel-2 is: ONLIN A00-00

Channel-3 is FAIL A00-01

Raid bios utility Ver5a42 Jan 21, 2002

The drives are mirrored

I'm looking to determine if it's just a bad drive or if the raid controller is a goner. It isn't obvious to me and I'm remote so anything I want to do is actually a series of instructions to someone over the phone which is, of course, non-optimal.

Here's a shot of the screen:

Any help determining for certain what is really wrong would be appreciated.

PowerEdge R220 and PERC H710 Compatible?

$

Hello, I have a client with a PowerEdge R220.  It's currently configured with a pair of 500GB SATA drives attached to the embedded controller (S110).  I'd like to know if it's possible to install a PERC H710 into this model and reconfigure the two drives into a RAID 1 array.  If so, which PERC H710 is recommended  and which cables will I need assuming two drives and no backplane?

Another question.  If I install the PERC controller card into the R220 and install the appropriate H710 drivers into the existing Windows Server 2012 R2 installation, can I then create the RAID 1 array and image the existing drives to the new RAID array or does this process require a complete reinstall of Windows Server?

Thank you for your time and assistance,

R

R710 - The chassis is open while the power is on.

Hello,

LCD Status Message indicates, I1910, Intrusion detected. Check chassis cover.

How do I remove this message from the LCD?

I tried DRAC.

Two different people checked the BIOS but there is nothing indicating "chassis" or "intrusion" or "disable chassis intrusion".

We removed the server briefly from production and the cover is on and latched closed.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

I recently brought my old PowerEdge 1950 out from storage, booted it up and found the following error: "Error: Memory failure detected. Memory size reduced. Replace the faulty DIMM as soon as possible.

Then lists my memory config (8x2GB)

The FBD link to the following DIMM failed to train: DIMM 6 & DIMM 2
FBD training error - The following memory branch has been disabled: Branch 0"

Can anyone help with this error? Do I need to re-configure the DIMM slots?

Battery and Disk failures

Hello,

we have a PowerEdge R510 server with Perc H700 Raid controller  installed, configured to run with Raid-5. So far we have configured 2 virtual disks. The first virtual disk consists of 4 hdd x 2 TB each, configured with Raid-5.

The second virtual disk has 4 hdds  x 3 TB each.

We have noticed that 2 hard disks (of 2 TB each), from the first pool, blink orange. We run the ESET tool,  and smart tool (the server runs centos), and get from the report, that the hard disks are in predicted failure. Also from the report we noticed that the battery of the controller is in failed state

What are the proper steps to follow to replace the battery and the drives?

Best regards

Maria

H730P with more than 8 drives

$

We have a range of R730xd servers with 2 x H730P RAID controllers, each with 8 x 6gbps SSDs attached. The servers are sold as "12+12" drive servers, and the chassis has bays for 4 more drives per controller.

When I read the H730P spec, I see it is described as an 8-port controller, which triggers some questions.

1) Are all 12 drive bays in each 'section' usable? I'd assume so since the server is sold as "12+12".

2) Are all 12 bays per controller handled by the H730P, or are 4 of them attached to ports on the motherboard? If so, which of them, and are they feature limited (caching, RAID support, performance, ...)?

Best regards,
Brian

Dell PowerEdge Raid 5 HDD 1 failure

$

I had a dell poweredge server running at client site having Raid 5 with 4 disks. Yesterday all of a sudden the system stop responding and there was error HDD 1 failure (showing orange light). Someone at client site (without consulting technical team) took out HDD 1 and swapped it with HDD 0 just to check if the slot stopped working. That guy had no idea of how raid works and he being a desktop troubleshooter considered it to be like normal disks swapped and turned on the server. It then showed HDD 0 failure message and according to him he was satisfied that slot was working :(

Sending the server to local vendors they found HDD 3 also missing in raid. But later they managed to get it back into raid but now they say the partition of one of the disk got corrupted as someone must have tried swapping it with HDD 0 with HDD 1.

I am in real bad condition right now. I want to know if in such case is there any way to recover client's data? Problem is this server was recently setup and the daily backup routine was having some issue which was suppose to be fixed and all of a sudden things happened :(
