Hi all,
I recently purchased a second hand T300 server to learn more about working with servers, networking, etc. It arrived but didn't have any hard drives so I bought a couple 160GB SATA drives (WD Caviar Blue). I plugged them into the connectors on the motherboard (SATA A, B) and powered the computer on. I have a pen drive with a bootable copy of an OS on it, so it proceeded to that and I tried to install the OS, but there was no storage device there to install it on. Thinking this was a bit strange, I went into BIOS and checked to see if the drives were being recognised there, but they also weren't. I thought I had maybe got a dodgy hard drive, so I tried it in my home computer but it recognised it fine.
I have spent the last 3 hours searching for answers and have tried multiple different solutions to try and get the computer to recognise these drives, all to no avail, and so I've arrived here with my tail between my legs hoping someone out there is wise enough to know what I've managed to mess up.
If it's of any interest, BIOS was recognising the CD drive, so I unplugged it and plugged those cables into the hard drive. Low and behold it appeared under drive E. This just added to the confusion, but in case it helps I thought I would throw that in.
