Repository Manager Confusion for BIOS and Firmware?

$

Just downloaded the Dell Data Center Repository Manager, and have a few questions from using it the first time.  I have two types of PowerEdge rack servers that I want to update BIOS and Firmware prior to installing the Windows Server operating system.

1. Should I put both types of servers I have in a single Repository or is it a good practice to make a repository for each type of hardware?

2. What is the DUP Format? Asks me for Windows 32, 64, Linux or other OS?  I plan to implement Windows Server 64bit once updated, but initially want to create a boot disk to update BIOS and Firmware.  Which DUP Format should I select?

3. What is the additional optional bundles to include?  I noticed for the PowerEdge R300 the individual files do not include a BIOS file update?  Why is this, is it in the optional bundle?  Should I always include the optional bundles?

Thanks for any help.

H700 replacement

We have a server with a faulty H700 controller, which has shutdown due to multiple ECC errors.

It's bad, but we can order a replacement.

But what then? How will this new replacement controller know what the existing RAID config is in this server? The server is loaded with important data (as always) so we don't want to risk loosing any data.

PowerEdge R815 multiple drive failed and missing drive. OS is not loding up.

Hi all,

I have few issue and not sure where to start.

I have  PowerEdge R815, Windows 2012R2 with Raid 5 config. with 6 drive.  And Perch H700 controller.

The issues are first, multiple drives has failed and one shows as missing drive.  Also virtual disk shows up as offline.

01:00:03                             Failed

01:00:04                             online

01:00:05                             online

The issue began after a power outage in our building.  As we turned on the server after power came back on the server showed drive 00 failed and 01 missing.  I am new to the company and the senior system engineer has left the company.  But when we contacted him with the issue he suggested that we force online drive 00.  So we did and the server came back online.  We ordered 3 drive to replace the one that missing and have some as spare.  But over the weekend the drive failed again.  So I tried to force online the drive but it would not come back online.  It goes through the process of booting but get to the page where I have the option to ‘exit and continue to windows server 2012 R2’, ‘reset from previous version’ or ‘turn off pc’.  I tried all three option and it keeps coming back to the same place.

My question is where do I start from.  Do I first:

  1.  bring the ‘Ready’ state drive online by choosing ‘make global HS’ option.  This should rebuild the drive.  Correct?
  2. Then bring the failed drive online by ‘force online’
  3. Then reboot.

Also can I reboot the server from one of the drive that is still online by going into BIOS and redirecting to the driver that are still online.

Please help me!! What would be the best way to get the server back online.  I am aware that I might not recover lot of the data which is ok.

Thank you

I am attempting to get into iDRAC 8  virtual console but I am receiving the following error, "login failed with an access denied error."

This seems to have happened shortly after applying a firmware update package to my servers.

This issue appears very similar to one already posted and listed below. However, i attempted creating a new account with full admin privileges on the iDRAC, then logging out and logging in as the new admin user but this did not resolve the problem.

PowerEdge R610 Mix Hard drive SATA and SSD

HI There,

Currently I have Dell Poweredge R610 which has 2 x 73GB SAS and 4 x 300GB SAS drive works fine with windows 2012 R2.

I want to  mix SATA and SAS disk on the RAID controller (PERC 6/i Intergrated),
Server PowerEdge R610.
I knew that mix HDDs are not possible on PERC 6/i controller. My question is if I upgrade to PERC H700 controller will I be able to achieve the below configuration
Server PowerEdge R610.
The configuration I want to become is:
PERC controller:
- 2 SAS HDD in RAID 1 (for the OS)
- 2 SATA SSD in RAID 1 (for Log files)
- 2 SAS HDD in RAID 1 (for Fileserver)
Could you please advise
Thanks,

Hello,

When Our server boots up, we get a message

"Raid Adapter

Firmware Failed Validation!!!

Adapter needs to be reflashed

Press any key to continue"

I then press a key it loads and on the final page, we have these messages:

"PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.

No boot device available

Current boot mode is set to BIOS

Please ensure compatible bootable media is available

User the system setup program to change the boot mode"

I worked with Avigilon and they stated  the Raid controller is not being recognized.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank You

Dell PowerEdge R220 Loses RAID Config after Power Failure

$

Hello, Everyone,

We're currently facing an annoying problem with our Dell PowerEdge R220 Server installed in one of our clients. Whenever there is a power failure, when the server is turned back on, the BIOS displays the following message:

"No boot device available.
Current boot mode is set to BIOS.
Please ensure compatible bootable media is available.
Use the system setup program to change the boot mode as needed."

The system only boots after accessing System Setup and re-configuring Embedded SATA option back to RAID Mode, under System BIOS Settings > SATA Settings.

Anyone facing a similar issue? Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Dell 1081AD KVM Remote Java Session only works after full reset

$

Hi all,

I've got a strange error on our 1081AD KVM, I can only launch a KVM session after a full reset, and during a few hours timeframe ( could not pinpoint exactly yet) , after that, I cannot launch it anymore.

Being more specific, I do a full factory reset, change passwords, change IP settings. In the next few hours, I can access the KVM, launch console sessions, no issue.

After a few hours time, when I try to launch a Java Session, it gives the error "Could not connect to Server". The error itself is pretty generic, and it is know from issues with Java, mainly due to security settings, like insecure/disabled ciphers , but his is not the case, Java Security settings are correct, the KVM is whitelisted, there are no proxies in between, no changes made on the client machine.

KVM has the latest firmware, version  01.20.00 from dellkvm.com , we also  know from experience that if we re-flash the firmware, it also works during a few hours, the flashing process does some kind of reset...

Steps already done/tried,  without success :

a) Older Java Releases (it needs 1.7+ to work)

b) Older Browsers (IE9, FF 45)

c) Other OS (Windows XP,  CentOS)

d) KVM standard reboot

We are running out of ideias here, does anybody have a clue ? We haven't done a firmware downgrade yet, but that does not seem a future-proof solution...

The relevant part of the Java Console is the following:

SSL session using protocol TLSv1.2, cipher suite TLS_DH_anon_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA

advise on rebuilding raid array

we have an old poweredge 2900 generation 1, that was using a Perc H310 raid card that had 2 raid 5 volumes on it that consisted of 4 x 3TB drives each.  when the server boots it now reports this error after the integrated LSI raid program runs from DELL bios:

adapter at baseport not responding

no adapter

i can see a light on the card itself, when i try to press control-R to get into the raid bios it doesnt do anything.  we have a separate drive for boot with 2008 R2 on it, however with the raid card in the system windows will not boot.

we pulled the card out and put in a Perc 5/i card.  we can now boot into windows, when we looked at the drives via MegaRaid, we CAN see all the drives as ready.  MegaRaid does not detect the drives as foreign and cannot find any foreign configs to import.

when we go directly into the raid bios on boot it reports the same, foreign config import options are grayed out and there is no volume information, however all the drives are listed.  the only option i seem to have is to create new volume information on the controller.

if i create two new volumes and add the drives to them in the order they were on the original card, is there a chance i can access the data if i don't initialize?  or will this risk destroying the data?  thanks for your input.

Dell M610 always Boots into BIOS.

The other day I used the CMC in my M1000e to boot all of the blades (M610) into system services. This didn't work as expected, it actually booted them into the BIOS, however, if I hit the escape key it would then load system services.

Anyways, fast forward a week and I can't get these systems to stop booting into the BIOS now. I've tried changing the boot order with the CMC multiple times, I've reset the BIOS to factory defaults, cleared the NVRAM, and even did a LifeCycle Controller Wipe (winrm LCWipe).

Hello,

The idea is to upgrade from originally provided 4x SAS to 6x SAS.
I would like to know, is it possible to use DELL PowerEdge R710 6x 3.5“ SAS/SATA Backplane 0W814D / W814D instead of original 4x SAS backplane + additional SAS cable from backplane to SAS controller. Will it work?

Thanks in advice!

Drives for PowerEdge T420 - PERC H710P card

$

We have a Dell PowerEdge T420 with a PERC H710P card.  It contains Seagate ST9300605SS drives.   One started showing a 'predictive failure' so we purchased another one from Amazon that was exact same make and model.   We stuck it in the server and open manage would not let us add it to the RAID array.   Within Open Manage i noticed 2 differences between the new one and the other 5. First it said the new one was Revision CS05 and the other 5 were Revision CS08 and under 'Certified' the new one said 'No' and the other 5 all said 'Yes'.

We called Dell and they wanted $500 for a new drive and the one we purchased was under $100 but it was same model number and brand.

So my questions are why didn't our drive work and is there a difference between the Dell drive and one purchased outside of Dell?

thanks

R510 w/ PERC H700

We have an R510 that we are trying to upgrade. It came with a PERC 6/I RAID controller, but we are wanting to use 3TB drives in it, so we installed the PERC H700 RAID controller. I had a remote tech do this work for me, as I'm in another state. After the install of the new card and removal of the old, we now get an error that says "SAS Cable A or SAS integrated Controller is missing". I can go into the bios settings of the H700, but it does not see any drives. There are no lights on the drive. The cables have been reseated, as well as the backplane and the drives, and all firmware are up to date.

On a side note, the remote tech said there was a cable coming off the riser card from a port labeled "J_SAS_LED1" that he didn't know where the other end connected.

Experts,

Have a T320 server that suffered a power failure. Since then its stuck in a boot loop trying to run a lifecycle update.

How can this be reset or fixed. All I can do is go into the iDRAC, have tried upgrade firmware but problem persists.

iDRAC reports version 2.41.40.40, if I rollback the problem still exists.

SUU 32-bit and 64-bit

If I want to update a server with an SUU, say 32-bit 16.10...

but the 32-bit SUU is missing firmware for an NVMe drive which I have to get from the 64-bit SUU.

What is the recommended path to update using both SUUs, if possible?

Thanks!
