Good afternoon , could you support us in the following issue?

We have PE2900 , it was woking fine some months ago   then  it was sent to us by airplane  , after receiving it  we turned  it on  and we could see the fans were on and LCD turn it on also , we did not have any signal from keyboard , the keyboard does not turn on the leds and it did not work then  we try with another keyboard and  the same result , both of them did not work . Both of them works  properly when they are used in another computer . Also we did the test using all the usb port ( 5 usb ports )

Also we did not see any information from monitor  eventhough the monitor is working properly  when we use in another computer. The monitor led show green at the begining then change to amber , also nothing is showed in monitor.

We have two hard drivers and RAID CARD , Raid card showes   blinking green  led but the hard drives when we boot  we did not see any light blink in this process I mean at the begining of the  boot neither in the booting process.

Also the LCD showes the following message E1410 , CPU1 or CPU2, also we open the computer and it looks fine , also we  take the NIC out , disconnect and connect the cables from RAID to the proper bay connector but the same result ,

Akso we tred  to boot from a booteable Acronis CD   ( CD drive works properly ) but the same result

The DIMMs look fine  but we did not take them out from their slots

Internally the Server looks fine ,

Do you think it could be good idea to take ( NIC , Raid Card , all DIMMs ) out and to try to boot to see if something else happens or

Do you have any additional ideas to try to see if we could fix it , or could be it a motherboard problem or any hit  during the travel in shipping which it could harm the server

Thanks for your support

Ricardo

PERC H710 Mini Replacement Options

We have a server (Service Tag: SVC TAG REMOVED BY MODERATOR Express Service Code: ) that we have been trying to put in production to replace an older SQL server for a few years now but we have never been able to get it to run as fast as the old machine.  I think I have narrowed it down to the disk speed which seems to be around 600 MB/s in real life.  The SSD (P/N: 0PHJ5) we are using is rated much faster and the PERC controller seems to only be rated for 750 MB/s.

Am I on the right track here?

Are there better options for this machine that the H710 mini or should I cut my losses and get another machine?

Sincerely,

Ben Putnam

Hi fellas,

I have an old server with a CONTROLLER, PERC6II, SERIAL ATTACHED SCSI

The battery of the controller is failing, so I need to replace it, but according to Dell, those batteries are EOL.

I have another old server that's the same R710, but instead of that card, it has

My question is, can I replace the PERC6II with that other controller?

Thanks for helping.

Kind regards

Matias

Installing Redhat Linux 7.2 on New 14th R740 with H740 RAID Card

Hi,

I have a need peculiar to install Redhat Enterprise Linux 7.2 on a new R740 with a H740 Raid Card. The hard drives are not detected. An R740 with H730 installs with no problems. Is there a way I can install Redhat 7.2 on the R740 with the H740 RAID Card. RHEL 7.4 installs fine but my vendor has a specific requirement for 7.2

Poweredge T20 Secure Boot with Windows Server 2016

I'm having issues with Secure boot on a Power Edge T20 but only when running Windows Server 2016.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a BIOS issue or a hardware issue or if anyone else is experiencing it.

BIOS: A02-A12

Boot Type: UEFI with Secure Boot Enabled

OS: Windows Server 2016 Standard (verified ISO)

Basically what happens is the server will not reboot it only hangs before reboot. When it goes to reboot. It  sits at a black screen indefinitely. It does not get to the Dell BIOS Logo. It even gets as far as turning off USB devices like the keyboard. It will do a full shutdown though without issue. This actually happens even during OS install. The first reboot it during the install it hangs. If I turn off secure boot it works fine.

If I use Windows Server 2012 R2 with secure boot enabled it works fine as well.

I have tried it will all the published BIOS versions for the T20 and can reproduce it even on A12.

To reproduce: Set bios to defaults. Make sure Secure boot is enabled for UEFI. Try to reboot Windows Server 2016.

The Dell Poweredge T20 is certified for Windows Server 2016 as of BIOS A09.

PowerEdge 860 and IPMI?

$

I've got some PowerEdge 860s in a lab environment and I'm trying to get IPMI working for an oVirt cluster.  I can configure and enable the BMC in the BIOS, and I can see it with ipmitool, do sel queries, see power status and make IPMI config changes no problem.

I can't get to the unit remotely for the life of me.  It's on a shared NIC obviously, and that NIC is working fine for standard network traffic.  It's on a tagged VLAN, and interestingly, if I try to use the same network/VLAN for the IPMI as is used on the 'core' port (different IP of course), with the vlan id set to the same VLAN as the 'core' port, it locks up the NIC port for all traffic.

I've changed the IPMI address to a new network/subnet, tagged and untagged, and I still can't get to it, but it doesn't lock up the NIC anymore.

I've done a bunch of looking, but can't find a definitive answer on whether there is any known issue that never got fixed with these systems where you can't use VLAN tagging on the port at all if you're using the  BMC?  That's about all I can figure, because I've got R610s in the same configuration and the BMC works great.

Are there some secrets I'm missing out there on using IPMI wtih PE860?  Has my google-fu failed me again?

I'm showing that the system has Firmware Revision 1.75 for the BMC, which I believe is the latest, and it claims to support IPMI 1.5, which as I understand it means I likely won't be able to use lanplus, but that's not critical, I just need function in the lab, not highest levels of security.

T610 reboot hangs on iDRAC error

$

I have a T610 which has recently started hanging on reboot with the following error:

iDrac6 Communication Failuree

Alert!  iDrac6 Error...  Rebooting

After a pause it automatically reboots, and the second time hangs with the message:

Alert! iDRAC6 not responding. Power required may exceed PSU wattage.

Alert! Continuing system boot accepts risk that system may power down without warning.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the system setup program.

I have never made use of the iDRAC, or even configured it for use, and I could live without it if I could just get the server to boot without it. I went into the system setup but couldn't find anything about disabling the iDRAC, is it possible?

This server only has one power supply, is there a way to test it to see if it has gone bad, given the indication "power required may exceed PSU wattage." It has run OK for several years on that power supply, but now that I think about it, this started right after there was an issue with the power lines coming into the building, which may have damaged the power supply.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

Also, the system fans are running at full speed, (very loud) and reading some of the other posts on here about iDRAC issues, I understand the iDRAC also controls the fans?

Poweredge R630, Perc H330 Raid Controller

Hi

I am hoping someone can help.  We were supplied a Poweredge R630 server with no Raid controller.  After multiple issues with the SD Cards we want to get a Hardware Raid controller in the server for running Xencenter.

We were able to buy the PERC H330 Raid controller but have been able to find the cables anywhere for this.  I phoned Dell and they passed me onto their parts suppliers in the UK but failed to phone me back after contacting them 3 times.

Does anyone know where I can get these cables?

Link for the raid card is below.

Thanks in advance for any help

PowerEdge R730 - Unusual PSU Failure?

$

Hello everyone,

One of our customers has experienced a very weird power failure recently and I have no clue what caused it and how to protect ourselves from such failures in the future. Hopefully somebody will be able to help me...

So basically we have got a panel with two R730 servers in it, each fitted with two redundant power supplies. The primary power supply in each server is fed from an UPS1 and the secondary power supply is fed from an UPS2, so we have got a full redundancy.

What happened is (as reported by the customer):
- the site engineer got called out to investigate a failure of the system (the servers are not accessible remotely, used in the oil and gas industry),
- on arrival he found out that that both servers were powered down,
- he tried to restart them, but was unable to - there was no response to the power button presses,
- he had a look at the server PSUs and noticed that the status lights (the green lights at the back of the PSUs) were off on all power supplies,
- he checked the breakers in the panel (all were on) and measured the voltage in the distribution board (all was OK, 230V coming from both UPS supplies),
- he decided to disconnect all the power leads from the power supplies for approx. 30 seconds and then reconnect them back, at this point the green status lights lit up,
- he then pressed the power button again and now the servers responded correctly (i.e. they started and the OS booted).

When I came to site on the following day I have reviewed the Windows Event Logs and found that the power supplies failed at approx. 14:30 and the power was restored (OS booted) at approx. 19:00.

However, when I checked in iDRAC there were no events at all to indicate that the power failure occurred at 14:30. There were no events at all since February (so the servers were running OK all the time), and the first event logged in iDRAC was around 19:00, when the engineer disconnected the power leads from the PSUs. So it looks like iDRAC was not aware of the actual power failure at all and though that the servers are running OK?

Here are mu thoughts:
- this could not have been an UPS failure - very unlikely for two power feeds to fail at the same time, plus there is other equipment in the panel (e.g. terminal servers) and it did not fail at all (checked the logs),
- could it have been a voltage spike/dip that caused the power supplies to "lock up",
- is it normal behaviour for the power supplies that the power leads have to be disconnected for a few seconds in order to restore normal operation (I assume it caused some sort of a restart),

Any thoughts appreciated, I could contact Dell support directly (the servers are still in warranty), but because this was a weird failure, I would rather see if anybody experienced something similar. My thoughts are that there is some sort of a bug in the firmware, that caused the PSUs to lock up, but I simply do not know.

R510 - UUID unreadable no instance(s) available when using WMIC csproduct

I have a Dell r510 server which when I enter wmic csproduct uuid I get 'no instance(s) available'.
I have updated bios, I have re-installed operating systems (windows 2012 r2) but this information is still not revealed to the operating system.

Any ideas on why this information is not showing and I how I can reveal or add it?

We are in the process of upgrading the RAID controller in an R410 that came from the factory with a 6/ir card.

  • Is X394K the correct cable for the conversion?
  • Is the battery and battery cable necessary?
    • Is the correct battery P/N: FR463?
    • Is the correct battery cable P/N: RF289?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recently installed OMSA on this PowerEdge T110, to easily check the RAID/Drive status. It is showing that the driver version is out of date.

Driver Version1.0.1-0021
Minimum Required Driver Version2.0.0-0162
Storport Driver Version6.0.6002.18005

I am unable to find 2.0.0-0162 online, on Dell's site, or elsewhere to update it to. Does anyone know where to find this firmware update?

Is there a way to schedule the patrol read on our RAID drive to only occur after hours or on weekends? We've been receiving alerts as to when it start / stops via our monitoring software however it seems to be running during production hours and we're not sure if that will effect performance or not.

Random Reboot R740

$

Hello,

We currently have a Windows server 2016 Datacenter server failover cluster with two PowerEdge R740 nodes.

The hardware configuration of each node is as follows:
2x Intel (R) Xeon (R) Silver 4116 CPU @ 2.10GHz Model 85 Stepping 4
RAM 196608 MB
Nvidia Tesla M60 Video Card
SAS connection with a PowerVault® 3420 SAN

Video cards are used in Discrete Device Assignment by virtual machines

We encounter a problem of brutal random reboot of nodes without error message in logs other than an event id 41 Kernel-Power "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first".

EventData
BugcheckCode 0
BugcheckParameter1 0x0
BugcheckParameter2 0x0
BugcheckParameter3 0x0
BugcheckParameter4 0x0
SleepInProgress 0
PowerButtonTimestamp 0
BootAppStatus 0
Checkpoint 0
ConnectedStandbyInProgress false
SystemSleepTransitionsToOn 0
CsEntryScenarioInstanceId 0

The reboot of the nodes is not simultaneous and occurs in a totally random way.

We have no errors in hardware testing and no explicit events in Open Manage.

Do you have any idea what caused this problem ?

Best Regards

T130 memory vs T30 memory differences

$

I have a T30 that works very well with non-ECC UDIMM DDR4 memory.  We recently picked up a few T130 servers on a good deal.  Considering the T30 and T130 use the same CPU series and use the exact same chipset, we expected that memory that works in the T30 would work in the T130.  But that is not the case.

When I take the non-ECC UDIMM memory out of the T30 and put it in the T130, it immediately shows a screen saying the memory is incompatible.  It seems that the system will ONLY work with ECC UDIMMS.

Since the T30 and T130 are identical CPU and chipset systems, does Dell program the T130 to fail with non-ECC memory?

What other reason could there be that non-ECC works in the T30 but not in the T130?  The problem is, this ECC UDIMM memory required in the T130 is sort of uncommon and rare.  And expensive.  For a low-end server, why require expensive, odd-ball memory?

Did the T130 ever accept non-ECC and Dell modified the BIOS at some point to fail with them?
