XML import stuck at 10% on PowerEdge R430

The XML import job is permanently stuck at 10% on my R430. It seems that the server fails to power-on by itself. If I do a manual power-on, the Lifecycle controller screen appears and you can see the two progress bars (as expected).

Is this a bug and is there a way I can address this issue without an additional power-on?

My firmware has been upgraded to:

BIOS Version     2.6.0
iDARC/Lifecycle Controller Firmware     2.50.50.50

Dell powerEdge 2900 Not Detecting Hard Disks - Controller 0, No configuration present, Foreign Import Failing

System has been running for a number of years practically error free, yesterday morning system fails to boot.  CTRL R reveals "no configuration present".  I follow articles and seems that a foreign import is the next step, however it fails to import.  The system has 4 hard drives, although I believe one may have been a hot spare, 3 of the drives have green lights and the 4th has an amber light.  Any help would be appreciated in getting the server back online. Thank you!

SAS 6/iR HDD question

Hello.

There is a card in the DELL T110 server.

Original installation:

Connector 0

Virtual Disk 0, RAID 1, Disk 0,1

2 x 1TB NSAS HDD

-----------------------

New installation I want to add:

Conncertor 0

Virtual Disk 0, RAID 1, Disk 2,3

2 x 500GB SATA HDD (Toshiba DT01ACA050)

When I install this on disk 1, the Toshiba HDD appears on the SAS 6 / iR BIOS.
However, it treats as good as 0.1 disk SAS 1TB.

(Disk 0 - SAS TB, Disk 1 SATA 500GB, Disk 2 SATA 500GB)

However, it looks as though it was a disk of 0,1 disk SAS 1TB

Thx

PERC H730 and mix of SAS 12Gbps and SATA 6Gbps

Hello everyone,

I am looking into having the following arrangement on a PERC H730:

1x RAID1 volume w/ (2) 960GB 6Gbps SATA drives

1x RAID10 volume w/ (8) 1.8TB 12Gbps SAS drives

Should I expect the whole bus to drop to SATA 6Gbps specs?

Should I have the volumes on separate controllers (i.e. 1 on server, other on DAS) for maximum performance?

Thanks for the input!

I just installed Debian 9 on an SSD and tried to boot the system. In BIOS there are no available boot devices shown and in the UEFI boot device options it says " *Unavailable: debian" (highlighted in blue). I am using a PERC H200 flashed to IT mode. I've tried the installation multiple times with no luck and can't seem to find any documentation on this issue. Any suggestions?

Nvidia tesla m40 insufficiently powered in poweredge r730

Hello, I got new Dell PowerEdge r730 server with factory installed Nvidia Tesla m40 in it. I installed ESXi hypervisor and Debian 9 GNU/Linux OS on top of it. I also installed proprietary drivers from the non-free package. After that I noticed the nvidia-smi (the tool for monitoring nvidia cards) error message:

“Unable to determine the device handle for GPU 0000:13:00.0: Unable to communicate with GPU because it is insufficiently powered. This may be because not all required external power cables are attached, or the attached cables are not seated properly.

Therefore, graphic card is not working properly. The graphic card has just one 8 pin power connector, which is connected to the power supply. ESXi and Debian see the graphic card as an installed device. I tried multiple versions of Nvidia drivers, however, it did not help to get rid of the error message.

Could somebody suggest solution for dealing with power supply error from nvidia-smi?

Hi

We have a Dell R720 , Tag: <removed>

We've removed the 16 Bay SAS BP and installed an 8 Bay SAS and 4 Bay PCIe BP (22FYP)

We've installed a PCIe Extender card in Slot4 (Dell YPNRC 4-Port SAS Expander Card)

We've installed 2 x 350GB SSD (DELL 350GB PCI-E GEN2 2.5" SAS SSD HARD DRIVE - D7D0V)

The Drives come up with green lights, the Extender card and BP seemingly appear in iDRAC but do not show in the BIOS.

No Drives appear in either, or Raid H710P 1Gb Config screen

Any ideas?

MD3000i Controller Issues - Non Optimal Array

$

Recently my duel controller MD3000i become non-optional, what seems to be to a battery issue in the controller in Slot 1.  I took the controller offline, pulled the controller and replaced the battery.  The battery fault light disappeared and I could bring the controller online (and those Virtual disks assigned to Controller 1 seem to fall back to their owner), however the MD3000i is still not optimal (battery still logging an issue).

I have tried another battery and another controller, but cannot get the MD3000i back to an optimal state.  Further more, if I leave Controller 1 online I have noticed the MD3000i periodically turn up the cooling fans very high, for a short time and then resume normal operation (I do not ever hear this activity, unless initially starting the device).  Also, if I leave controller 1 online, it seems within a relatively short time I am running into issues with my Host Server that is connected via iSCSI to the MD3000i (this also happened after I moved all disk ownership to controller 0).  I am currently running with Controller 1 offline and, although I have no-redundancy, I am operational.

However, I am not too sure what to do next to resolve this issue.  It seems like a hardware issue but I doubt both the controller and my "spare" controller are both defective, so could it be the chassis?  I have not yet tried stopping all I/O and powering off the MD3000i, nor have I tried swap the controller in Slot 0 with the one in Slot 1 to see if the problems moves.

Any help guidance would be appreciated!  I do have a support bundle I could share...

Thanks!

I have a PowerEdge T620 and have configured idrac7.

When the server OS is up and running I can access idrac remotely.
I just restarted the server to install windows updates and during the restart period I could not access idrac remotely.
Why would this be?

Does Poweredge 1600sc support 2gb RAM?

What RAMs Poweredge 1600sc can handle?

Does the motherboard support 2GB PC-2100?

From what I could figure out from the Internet, it supports 4x1gb, but I could find nothing about 2gb sticks.

I have 3x512mb RAM (2xPC2100+1xPC2700) and want to add one more stick into the remaining slot.

I would like to be sure that the PowerEdge 1600sc motherboard can take 2GB memory stick.

Poweredge r420 replaced sysboard- now cannot see both SAS drives

Hello!

I have just replaced the system board in our Poweredge and when I try to boot the system cannot detect any of the 2 x 1T SAS drives.  It only detects the NIC cards and the DVD drive.  They were previously set as a RAID 1 I believe.

We have embedded RAID using the PERC S110.  When enter the PERC BIOS (CTRL-R), no physical drives are listed (just the DVD drive).  I'm pretty confident all the cables are connected properly; I'm not getting any errors on boot...

I've tried BIOS and UEFI boot both with no luck.

Any thoughts or things I can try?

Thanks!

PowerEdge T710 Intrusion Detection not Clearing, Failed System Board Battery Replaced and Still Failed

$

Hey people, I am having a number of issues with my Dell PowerEdge T710, recently I have been getting error messages on my iDRAC6 (enterprise) dashboard that the system board batty has failed. I attempted to replace the battery with a fresh new one and it didnt help, so for the heck of it I checked the old battery using my multi-meter and determined that it had 3.08 volts - well within the spec. I checked the new battery too and that read 3.20 volts - also within the spec. So I inspected the contacts and they appear to be contacting properly and the battery is installed correctly (+ side face up).

So I left that alone and have not had any issues aside from the annoying X mark on the iDRAC dashboard.

Yesterday I took the server offline in order to install new RAM (2 sticks of 16gb) and all went well until I reconnected the server and noticed that the fans were running at full blast. Fast-forward all my troubleshooting and I discovered that for some reason the system is now identifying that the chassis is open despite being closed. I did everything to check why that is and I can only figure that something else may be wrong.

Using a multi-meter I verified that the switch is working properly.

I suspect that just like when a T710 is opened when running and the fans spin up to full power, same thing is happening here because its thinking that the chassis is open.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

T710 not listed as supporting OS Windows Server 2016 - What is likely to go wrong with a bare metal installation?

$

I want to install Windows Server 2016 Standard on a PowerEdge T710 currently running 2012R2.  The T710 (11th Generation) model is not listed as supporting OS Windows Server 2016.  Is that just because it is old and has not been tested (which makes sense), or are there drivers that are really likely not to work properly?  What else should I be concerned might go wrong?

Rails for FPM185 KMM

Recently we have acquired a nice Dell FPM185 KMM without the mounting rails. Using the Dell Rails Matrix PDF:

https://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/business/solutions/engineering-docs/en/Documents/rail-rack-matrix.pdf

We noted that the FPM185 was listed with "-" as the rail identifier. A set of ReadyRails II  A7 1u rails were mounted but we noted that the KMM needed "slide-in" style rails, not the "drop-in" mounting the A7 set provided.

What are the rail types needed for this KMM? What are the part numbers and where can we purchase them? If they're proprietary, why include them on the rails matrix sheet with "-"? Additionally, are there any universal rail sets that will work with this KMM?

Thank you!

Poweredge 610R RAM Setup

$

I've got a poweredge 610R server, its used as a VM platform at home for development.

I've got 12 x 4GB RAM modules however cannot install them all without error, I have got 24GB installed in each white RAM slot (a1,a2,a3,b1,b2,b3), but I'm struggling to work out what configuration to use to utilize all the slots. Or is it not possible to fill all 12 slots?

Happy to provide any information needed to help me! I've gone through a lot of forums but cant find a black and white answer...
