I want to change the boot sequence on a poweredge r720xd but I don't know the setup password. According the manual I have to reset the PWRD_EN jumper on the systemboard. When I do this nothing happened. When I press F2 I only have readonly access at the bios and I can't access iDRAC. Is there another way to remove/reset the setup password ?
I also did a reset of the NVRAM_CLR jumper. At boottime the nvram is cleared but it brings me not closer to a solution.
i got a dell "PE 2850" and today i noticed that this server was down so I manually rebooted this server and found the following thing on the bios creen both the drives i.e A00-00 and A00-01 has failed I have attached screenshot of the Bios screen. i wanted to know what exactly has happene on the server which part exactly gone down and also is there any way to resolve this issue.
I will be quite thankful to all of you guys if you could help me in resolving this issue.
Since upgrading OMSA to ver. 8.2.0 on a PowerEdge R710 the session has been logging out/disconnecting by itself.
How can I stop this from happening?

When I attempt to update the firmware via Licecycle ctonroller FTP option to simply the default of 'ftp.dell.com' all I get is "Connecting to FTP server to download the catalog" for about 5 minutes and then a failure (see attached image).
Is there a trick here to get this work? No proxy server and the network is open to go out. No proxy, and just specifying the feault 'ftp.dell.com'.
In Firefox version 39, some OMSA web site would give this error message:
An error occurred during a connection to <server>:1311. SSL received a weak ephemeral Diffie-Hellman key in Server Key Exchange handshake message. (Error code: ssl_error_weak_server_ephemeral_dh_key)
I suppose I need to reinstall new version of OMSA, or is it? I haven't checked yet. Does new version exist yet? And is there some "fast and dirty" workaround because it would take me quite some time to update all my OMSA.

I have a Poweredge T320 server with an H310 controller in RAID 1 with two 2 TB disks.
I recently had a problem with one of the hard drives and I need to replace with a new one of the same size (2 TB) but of different brands.
Is it only necessary to shut down the server, put the new hard drive and boot the server?
I have access to the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator.
I have try to install Win server 2012 on a Poweredge 1950 creating a bootable USB and a DVD but either way is not working, I have follow several web options like setup boot process for USB and to boot from CD but no matter what I do on the USB it just hang and with the DVD will skip it, it wont even try to read it.
Any help is much appreciated
Enclosure Owners Manual only shows conversion for left front and right front ears. Does not show conversion for left rear and right rear? How does the rear of the VRTX attach to the rack?

Today I tried to upgrade the RAM of a T310 server (one X3440 processor) using 4x8Gb memory modules
The mainboard has 6 slots in a row. (The 1st and the 4th slot have white clips).
So, I've installed 2 dimms on the 1st and 2nd slot, and the other 2 ones on the 4th and 5th slot (starting from the top)
When i boot up the server, the lcd on the front, shows the following message "Temp: unavailable" (I think there's more on that message but it stucks there), the fan works on 100% and nothing happens. No screen, no "beeps", no leds on keyboard or mouse, nothing.
I've upgrade BIOS to 1.11.0 but the problem stil remains.
Can you please help me?

We have some PowerEdge 2950 Servers running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and a PowerVault MD3000 Direct Attached Storage. The problem is that each server that I connect to the MD3000 starts to reboot without throwing any error messages or kernel panics. It's always the same procedure:
1) I connect the MD3000 to a PowerEdge server
2) I can access the disks and the data for some hours
3) The server starts to do random reboots, sometimes the boot-procedure doesn't even finish
I'm pretty annoyed by this and all I want to do is save the data on the MD3000 to a newer system.
Does anybody know a reason for the random reboots and how I can prevent them?

Can someone indicate the differences between the H710 and H710 Mini (embedded)?
An online RAID change from RAID5 to RAID6 via OMSA on an R720 with a H710 Mini Embedded controller had a much greater impact on performance than performing the same online RAID change on another R720 which has a H710 Adapter (non Mini Embedded).

I am having the exact issue alfbar has/had. I am attempting to use a non-RAID firmware on the H200I in the internal PCIe storage slot of my R610. However in my situation, I am using a both external PCIe card slots for other devices, so the proposed solution will not work in my case. I need to have the drives passed, without a RAID abstraction layer, to the OS for portability reasons.
I get same message after flashing the firmware “Invalid PCIe in the Internal storage slot! SYSTEM HALTED!”.
Will Dell release a firmware or BIOS that allows for this hardware/firmware configuration?!
The server gives a Baseboard management controller error at start up but starts and runs fine. The fans are running at 100% all the time. I have tried to update the BMC firmware but it gives and error This update package is not compatible with your system configuration. Also the status light on the back is lit up solid all the time.

We recently had a drive fail in our Dell PowerEdge R720 that has a PERC H710 Mini raid controller.
The firmware version of the PERC H710 Mini controller is 21.3.2-0005
We ordered 2 replacement drives using the same model# of the failed drive, one as a spare for future failures, as its a production server. They aren't dell certified but they are the same exact model as the certified one that failed.
We tried both drives, however one lists as failed and the other lists as unsupported, and we can't rebuild the array.
I read that the new RAID controllers from dell only allow certified dell drives, but I also read somewhere there was a firmware update to allow 3rd party drives.
I am trying to figure out if this is true, the latest firmware update I have installed allows 3rd party drives and I have something else going on. Or in fact with this model I will need to get a certified dell drive.

I understand IPMI is a protocol that Intel made to enable hardware to talk with the O/S.
If we turn off IPMI (Security are badgering us), will that mean that OMSA becomes almost redundant in terms of being able to get Hardware readings/alerts??
Is there a password that can be applied to IPMI?
