lcd error PWR1006

$

I've got a r720 with 2 495W power supplies with 6 7.5k HDDs and 2 SSDs. When I power up the LCD screen shows the error PWR1006 saying not enough power is available, the wattage being pulled is only 140W. If I switch the power options to non-redundant the error message goes away, but as soon as I turn it back to redundant the message comes back.

Why am I getting this message if it appears that I am way under the power usage of the PSUs?

iDrac 2.21.21.21 virtual console port bug

Hi all,

we have a R430 with an idrac 8.

We need to access to the virtual console, and, for many reasons, we need that its port is different from the default one (5900), let's say 5905.
Everything works fine with the firmware 2.15.10.10.

Today, we upgraded the firmware with Lifecycle Controller v.2.21.21.21 and the virtual console has stop working: when Java runs, after several seconds, a warning popup appears with the message "the network connection has been dropped".

We tested it without firewalls or other NAT between, so we think it's a bug of the 2.21.21.21 version.
With the new version, the virtual console works only if the port is configured to 5900.

We did a rollback to the version 2.15.10.10 and everything works fine again, also with a non-standard port.

Anyone with the same issue?

Bye

T320 Memory Upgrade

Last year I got a T320 with 4x 8GB 1600 single rank memory setup in ECC. I'm looking to up the memory in the system now and would like to purchase 2x 16GB sticks and use the remaining slots. I know the other slots are disabled when setup as ECC. The server is running VMWare 5.5, will it have any issues if I swap the memory from ECC to Memory Optimized?

Also, after it's swapped it looks like I need to move the memory from slots 2, 3, 5, 6 to 1, 2, 3, 4?

If all of that is Ok, then when I add the dual rank 16GB sticks will they need to be put in slots 1 and 2 or some where else?

Thanks for the help.

6950 Requires Opening Case to Boot, then Powers Off Randomly

Hello everyone,

I have, what I think is, a weird issue with a PowerEdge 6950.  I just received this server to act as an Software Instrument server, and it has proven to be rather reluctant to live.  Initially, I was given the wrong memory, the sticks were each 800Mhz, so the BIOS gave a memory optimization error on each boot.  I've replaced it with the prescribed 667 memory, so that particular issue is resolved.  That said, it has not fixed the other problem that has been present since purchase...

For some reason, I have to disconnect both PSUs and open the case for a few seconds in order for it to boot into a windows os or installer environment.  If I just open the case, it doesn't work, and if I just disconnect the PSUs, it doesn't work.  Once booted, it will work for a random amount of time.  It seems as though it is when there is a large amount of data transfer that begins (greater than an installation) or perhaps something that is more intensive than just sitting idle...  I'm struggling to find what triggers the issue exactly, but regardless, after an indeterminate amount of time, the screen will go black, the system becomes unresponsive, network connections are instantly dropped, and the fans slow down (usually, rarely the machine actually reboots) until I manually hard power off the system.  Strangely, it seems to remain useable for a good bit more time (about an hour or so) if I actually remove the CMOS battery and reseat it instead of just opening the case.

I've run the Dell diagnostic software, and it doesn't find any issues.  It isn't likely to be the ram, as it was a problem with the original batch, and the new set I just purchased.  I have replaced the CMOS with a new one just purchased.  All BIOS and firmware items have been brought up to date (even reinstalled).

I have no idea how to proceed.  I'm trying to avoid sending the entire unit back to the company (who happen to have great support) partially out of stubbornness for being unable to figure this out, and partly due to the fact that the turn around time is likely to be a few weeks, and I need this system up as quickly as possible.

If anyone could help, that would be great.  I've reached a point where I no longer have any idea what I'm doing. [:^)]

Hello,

We have a problem on few M600 blade servers where we get an alert saying Virtual disk is degraded. But in the ompreport vdisk status shows OK, however when i check OMSA it shows a warning

Driver version is out of date.

Firmware Version00.25.47.00.06.22.03.00
Driver Version3.04.20rh1

"weak ephemeral diffie-hellman key" error in FF39 prevents OMSA from being accessible

In Firefox version 39, some OMSA web site would give this error message:

An error occurred during a connection to <server>:1311. SSL received a weak ephemeral Diffie-Hellman key in Server Key Exchange handshake message. (Error code: ssl_error_weak_server_ephemeral_dh_key)

I suppose I need to reinstall new version of OMSA, or is it?  I haven't checked yet.  Does new version exist yet?  And is there some "fast and dirty" workaround because it would take me quite some time to update all my OMSA.

Thanks

Adding an IEEE1394 (FireWire) to an R410?

$

I'm new to rack hardware, and I've just bought a second-hand Dell R410 to which I'm thinking of adding an IEEE1394 (FireWire) interface.

If I've understood correctly, from reading the R410 system hardware owner's manual, adding a PCI card requires use of an expansion card riser, placed in the expansion-card riser socket.

This expansion card riser has two slots: one is reserved for a specific Dell integrated storage controller, the other is available for a x16 link Gen1 or Gen2 PCIe expansion card.

Is this correct, and can anybody make a suggestion for a suitable IEEE1394 card?

Keith

Does anybody have a download link for a version of Open Manage that will work on a PowerEdge 1600SC running Windows 2003 32 bit? Currently installed is Dell Open Manage Array Manager 3.6.0 (build 568.5). I need to check CPU temp, volts & fans - that sort of thing.

Poweredge R710 Memory Failure.

Hello,

I currently have an R710 with DIMM_A1 and DIMM_A2 occupied with Hynix 4GB 2rx8 Sticks. Which works fine.

I purchased two more 4GB sticks and they turned up as Hynix 4GB 2rx4 PC3-10600R-9-10-E1 I installed these sticks into DIMM_A4 and DIMM_5 and when booting it stated bios has disabled these sticks as there not ECC and failed MEMTEST.

From my knowledge these sticks are ECC Registered sticks.

Does this mean the sticks are dead or faulty or am I doing something wrong!

I have an M1000e chassis with M610 (gen2) blades, servers boot fine without the mezzanine card (HX271) Card is in Fabric C. I also have an M600 blade with the same mezzanine card which boots fine.

Is there an issue with the HX271 (Infiniband ddr) mezzanine card in the M610 ?

According to all the Dell documentation, it should work...

Any help appreciated !

R710 PSU requirements

Hello,

I recently tried to upgrade an R710 server from a single E5520 CPU and 2x2GB of RAM to Dual X5650's and 6x8GB of RAM. The server also has a Perc 6i and 3x146GB drives. However when I did the upgrade there were warning like this;

"Alert! Power required exceeds PSU wattage. Check PSU and system configuration."

The server boots after a restart and warning about possible degradation in performance. The server only has a single 570W PSU. I'm looking for the cheapest way to resolve the issue. Would adding a secondary 570W PSU work? Or do I have to go with the high output 870W unit?

Also, I'm a big surprised by the error. The X5650 is a 95W CPU just like a lot of the others. The manuals for both the 570W and 870W PSU seem outdated as they both only mention the "maximum" configuration to be Dual 5500 model Xeon (no mention of 5600 model). But the "maximum" configuration for the 570W PSU referenced Dual 5500 Xeon processors that are 95W just like the ones I have. So to me it makes no sense why it shouldn't work.

Thanks.

When I attempt to update the firmware via Licecycle ctonroller FTP option to simply the default of 'ftp.dell.com' all I get is "Connecting to FTP server to download the catalog" for about 5 minutes and then a failure (see attached image).

Is there a trick here to get this work? No proxy server and the network is open to go out. No proxy, and just specifying the feault 'ftp.dell.com'.

USC fails to load after firmware upgrade on PET310

An older T310 with Perc 6i (no LCD, no iDRAC LAN port) had USC ver. 1.3.0.40. I could not install w2012, so I tried to upgrade the USC firmware. I installed USC ver 1.5.0.29_A00 succesfully (already twice), downloaded from DELL by the server's Service Tag.

After reboot, choosing System Services, the USC cannot finish loading, only waiting for with the message on the screen: Entering System Services... Starting Unified Server Configurator.

In the LOG I found new message pair after FW upgrade: ROMB Battery: Battery sensor, falied was asserted. / Batterery sensor, failed was deasserted.

What can I do now? Where to download the older USC FW from?

Hi,

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1950 genII.

But it holds an PCI64 riser,

And i have seen on different forums that it could be replaced by an PCI-Ex riser.

With PN: FP332

I have bought the riser to find out that it actually doesnt fit at all...

The connector needs to be reversed actually to make it work/fit.

Does anyone had an sollution or compatible PN's
