PowerEdge T310 memory upgrade problems

Hi

Today I tried to upgrade the RAM of a T310 server (one X3440 processor) using 4x8Gb memory modules

The mainboard has 6 slots in a row. (The 1st and the 4th slot have white clips).

So, I've installed 2 dimms on the 1st and 2nd slot, and the other 2 ones on the 4th and 5th slot (starting from the top)

When i boot up the server, the lcd on the front, shows the following message "Temp: unavailable" (I think there's more on that message but it stucks there), the fan works on 100% and nothing happens. No screen, no "beeps", no leds on keyboard or mouse, nothing.

I've upgrade BIOS to 1.11.0 but the problem stil remains.

Can you please help me?

Thank you in advance

PowerEdge T410 & Xeon X5680 Compatibility

Anyone know if the PowerEdge T410 with the 1.12.0 BIOS is compatible with Xeon X5680's? The release notes indicate the system is compatible with 5600 series processors but I am unable to get the server to actually boot with them installed.

What I have tried:

Reset BIOS - NO-GO-

Reflashed BIOS to 1.12.0 - NO-GO-

Removed all other processors and RAM leaving only bank 1 - NO-GO-

Installed a single (didn't have another) "known-good" X5650 6-Core 130watt processor - ALL-GOOD-

I am now under the impression that BIOS 1.12.0 is NOT compatible with X5680 processors.

Can someone assist and verify this for me? My Google-Fu is not returning any results...

Thanks in advance for your time...

Dell 2700W UPS with battery status aborted

I have several Dell 2700W UPS devices with a network management card. Some of them show now battery status aborted on the web UI, but the status is ok. When checking through the Dell Multi-UPS tools the status is shown as resting for the same one that has on the web UI status aborted. What is happening?

Dell UPS 2700W Service Battery warning

Yesterday one of our Dell UPS 2700W sounded an alarm and the error log reports it as Alarm 149.  According to the manual here is the description:

"A faulted battery string has
been detected and as a result,
the charger is disabled."

The recommended action is to "Contact your service representative."  I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on this error message.  What it exactly means and is there anything I can do short of actually calling Dell for help.

I appreciate any help or suggestions.  For now the backlight on the front display is orange instead of blue and the there is a blinking battery icon with a line through it.

Also, the UPS Management software from Dell shows that everything is functioning normally so I'm kind of confused.

[iDRAC] OU and O are interchanged in Cert-Request using API

$

Some more info: idrac 8, V2.30.30.30

If I create a certificate request using the webgui, the request ist fine.

If i use the api (Method: GenerateSSLCSR from iDRACCardService) the OU and O values are interchanged!

Example:

Values configured:
OU=MyOU
O=MyCompany

In the CSR this values are interchanged. I checked it using Windows "CertUtil.exe -dump 'idrac.csr'"
The output delivers:
OU=MyCompany
O=MyOU

Is it a bug?

OpenManage Server Administrator 8.3 on Centos has the issue with SNMP module. ( StorageManagement-MIB::virtualDiskDiskCachePolicy or .1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10893.1.20.140.1.1.26) shows INTEGER: 2 (Disabled) but it is Enabled on controller.

When Disk Cache Policy : Disabled

SNMP shows StorageManagement-MIB::virtualDiskDiskCachePolicy.1 = INTEGER: 4

Looks like the multiplication by 2.

Hi _Guys,

I have a pair of R610's which is running Windows 2008.  I have upgraded the disks on one of the boxes and and the OS to 2012 R2  and therefore lost the NIC teaming I require.  Can you point me in the correct direction to a Broadcom Advance Control Suite so that I can configure the BCM5709C NICs with 2012 R2 as an OS?

Thank you,

PowerEdge T110-II RAID questions

PE T110II RAID-1 Degraded, The Only Drive in RAID Volume Has Bad Blocks

Drive0 has bad blocks, Drive1 completely failed (missing). I replaced Drive1 and added the new drive as a hot spare and the RAID is in the process of rebuilding. I have a 2nd new drive I was going to add as a hot spare (Drive3) and once the current RAID status is Optimal, take Drive0 offline from Open Manage (remotely) and rebuild the RAID again with the 2nd hot spare. Is this possible and should I go this route or would it be better to replace Drive0, rebuild the RAID-1 from scratch with both new drives and restore from backup? My issue with restoring from backup is I tried a restore last week but I was getting an error message in Symantec System Recovery 2013 when attempting to restore the boot and system partition.

Dell iDRAC6 virtual console connection failed

Hi guys!

So I have iDRAC6 set up on a PowerEdge R710. Everything works fine, except whenever I try to launch the java virtual console, it gives me a "connection failed" error when trying to connect to the virtual console server..

I can confirm port 5900 and 5901 are not being blocked. I have also tried adding the domain/server address to the trusted sites and changing the activeX running settings appropriately as suggested as an earlier fix. Nothing helps. However, I am able to successfully launch the console on Java 7, but not on Java 8.

What changed? Any suggestions?

Every few days we get a list of 8 SCSI error messages: Sense Key: 4 Sense Code: CF Sense Qualifier: 0.

We have an external array of 8 SCSI disks connected to the PERC H800 adapter.

Does anyone know what this Sense Key and Code indicates?

Memory Mapping

$

Hello,

I have 2 servers PowerEdge R720xd used as Hyper-V servers, let's call them HV1 and HV2.

HV1 has 32GB of memory, 4x8GB and HV2 has 48GB of memory 12x4GB.

Each server has 2x12 slots of memory, 12 per CPU.

On HV1, used slots are 2-4 and 14-16 (or A2-A4 and B2-B4)

On HV2, used slots are 1-2-3-4-6-8 and 13-14-15-16-18-20 (or A1-A2-A3-A4-A6-A8 and B1-B2-B3-B4-B6-B8)

I will add soon 4x8GB of memory on each server.

First question : Do you think actual slots are the best mapping ?

Second question : which are the best slots where to add my 4 new 8GB ?

Power Supply Capacity exceeded PSU wattage

We have recently replaced the dual E5-2630 processors in our PowerEdge R620 with E5-2670 processors. Additionally we have installed 2 SSD drives to the server. We have a 495W PSU and whenever we boot the server we get "Power required exceeds psu wattage. Check psu and system configuration". We were able to get the server booting by pressing F1 and ignoring the message. We checked the power usage with the new processors and SSDs on load and it was well below 200W.

I do understand that the server is attempting to perform a power inventory check while booting, however we cannot take down the server for hardware maintenance atleast for the next 6 months to replace the PSU with higher wattage. I wanted to know if it was safe to ignore this error till the next hardware maintenance window, provided we keep a strict check on the power usage. We also have limited access to the server physically which makes it difficult to make the PSU swap.

Hi Everyone,

hope you might me able to help me, I have recently acquired a dell 6850 server, it has 1 x scsi 73 gb drive,

how do I configure the bios so that it see's it as one normal non raid drive.... this isn't a production server just for testing...

once I have the bios configured, I'm guessing the server 2008 r2 install disk still wont see the drive and i'll have to load a driver....... which one.... because I think I've tried all of them..... kinda at my wits end with it.

Just FYi, I'm a experienced windows user and know my way around server OS but this is the first time i've played with server hardware... its been quite a steep learning curve :)

many thanks,

john

Changing faulty disc on Poweredge 2900

$

Hi guys,

We've got a Poweredge 2900 server. Due to a faulty disk in the disk matrix, we've changed it for a new one. But curiously, the rebuild is not done automatically. The leds appear one continuously green and the other one continuously off

Initially we thought that we had to select "Rebuild" manually from the PERC menu, but we realized that we only had the options "LED blinking" and "Make global HS" enabled in the menu.

This new disk appear as "Ready" in the status.

The rest of the disks work correctly and they flash as their activity as usual.

The new disk is the same model as the other ones. And we confirm that the new disk is not faulty, since we've tested it with another new disk and the same behavior occurs.

The disk model is Seagate Cheetah NS ST3400755SS.

Do I need any additional step?

Kind Regards

Have a T310 Server with (4) 1GB DDR3 1066 1r sticks. These are the original sticks since purchase.

I have started to get BIOS dropping two of the four sticks with  a MAMBIST Failure A2 and MAMBIST Failure A4. Windows 2008 R2 shows 4 GB with 1.99 usable, I decided to move the sticks around to see if I could narrow down the issue, and the problem stayed with the slot. it seems as though my board could be at fault?

The Perc H310 Controller is reporting the bustype RAID to the OS, even when the disk is configured as NON-RAID type in the Controllers configuration!

That has be be fixed asap, Windows Server and ists Storage Spaces Direct Feature Needs to see SAS Disks, not RAID disks. Otherwise its not possible to use S2D!
