PowerEdge 310 HDD swap using Bare Metal Recovery

$

I have a bare metal backup saved on an internal HDD, External, HDD, and flash drive and am trying to restore to a new dissimilar HDD. 1TB seagate to a 500GB WD. When I boot into windows setup and press repair to do a full system repair, the backup is not listed in any of the 3 locations. I am only really given an option to install drivers. From reading different forums, they point to the PERC110 drivers, but after installing these, nothing changed. Any ideas?

iDRAC 6 / R710 - "Temp: Unavailable in standby"

Hi Experts,

I have searched long and hard to find a solution to the error message I am getting on my PowerEdge R710 server. The LCD reads

Temp: Unavailable in standby

Additionally, the Temperature page of iDRAC 6 shows just the headers and no data.

The server is operational, but the fans seem to be at stand-by speed. However, if the lid is opened they fire up to full instrusion speed - same at boot up.

The server has the latest BIOS version and is fully up-to-date.

Does anyone have any ideas why I am getting this message?

Thanks,

Chris

Dell PowerEdge R715 - Receiving: Installed Memory Configuration is Not Optimal - Error Message

All of the RAM is being identified by the server, but this message continues to pop up, forcing someone to physically be at the server during the time of a power cycle in order to get the system up. This is causing us issues with automatic updates and server restarts. I've attached information regarding the memory configuration. How can I remove the required F1 strike to continue with boot?

OMSA Web server certification cihpers

What are the correct strong ciphers to stop getting the NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID and This server could not prove that it is xxxx; its security certificate is not trusted by your computer's operating system. warning when opening OMSA. We use the current version of chrome by default.

I was poking around in the OMSA web server settings and it seems to me the issue is the tsl1 and some leftover SSL options in the cipher strings and the fact that it is using 128 instead of 256.

I know at one point the old fix involved removing the ciphers that used dhe_rsa and now I am wondering if the issues are 128 vs 256 with the browses along with some residuals SSL vs tls1 ciphers remnants left in the ciphers even though the protocols choices selected are tlsv1.1 and tlsv1.2

OMSA ver is 8.5. My other servers are doing the same thing using various other versions of OMSA.

HBA330 Mini not reporting All drives in O/S

We recently purchased several R730xd with HBA330 mini to use in Storage Spaces Direct. We went with a 12-4-2 configuration. However even that the HBA sees all drives in Bios  it reports only 1 of the 4 drive seated on the 4-disk extra carriage. Server has the latest 2016 Updates and also the latest firmware/bios/drivers for Server and HBA from Dell.

Any ideas?

Dell PowerEdge R210 II Quad Port NIC

Hi. Is there a quad-port NIC supported in the Dell PowerEdge R210 II? There is only a dual-port listed on the Dell accessories page for the product. Alternatively, this card is listed as supported by the R200, but not R210 or 210II.

Can you confirm support?

Thanks!

R310 Perc H300A- New Hard Drives not recognized

Hey guys, I recently bought some hard drives that I wanted to use in my R310. Currently, I have 2 (dell) drives set up in RAID. I powered down, inserted the new drives (non-dell ST32000444SS) and powered back on. Used Crtl+C to enter controller screen. Drives are not there. I know the slots are working, I inserted an old drive I had into one and it popped up.

The top light doesn't light up on them, but the bottom light is solid green. When I remove a drive, I get a warning on the LED display that a drive has been removed, but I can't get them to show up in the controller. I tried to boot to Windows, and they don't show up there either. I am up to date on firmware for everything.

Any ideas?

How do I find the maximum disk size I can use with an xx2x2 raid card?

I have a Dell C6100 chassis in to which I want to install the xx2x2 (LSI 2008 I believe?) SATA III mezzanine RAID cards.

How can I find out (other than trial and error) what the largest disk size I can use with these cards is?

I already have two C6100s running with one 3TB disk per blade (non RAID) which I gather is the maximum for the on-board SATA controllers however for the RAID fitted blades I'd like to use larger disks, 4TB or more, if possible - but at the same time I don't want to waste money on disks that then get truncated if the card can't access all the space.

3 x 4TB disks in RAID 1e would give me just under 6TB of usable space per blade, which is what I'd like to aim for. Sadly the cards don't seem to do RAID 5.  I've already obtained one xx2x2 fitted blade and run it with 3 x 500MB SSDs, so all I need to know is the max disk size I can use.

I've searched Google and various hardware forums but not found any information, and while the C6100 owner's manual I've downloaded mentions the RAID cards it does not specify the maximum disk size.  Is this information available anywhere?

Perc 8 VRTX

Hi Team,

We are building 2 blades (M630) into VRTX Chassis, with Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2, and Perc8 , and both are sharing a QUORUM VD, but when we do any change in one of their, the other don't see the change until the server restarts.  I didn't see any information how to build a cluster with two nodes with Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 from Dell, I saw info about MS Windows 2012 R2, and I don't know if this OS is totally compatible with all VRTX's elements, Do you know if MS Hyper-V 2012 is compatible with VRTX, Perc8?

Thanks

A few Basic questions and advice

Hello everyone,

Ok, so I recently took a position for a local tax firm, we currently have 23 offices, none of which have more than 10 employees. Of the 23 offices, 22 of them use Windows7 on a client to client network and a Win7Pro machine works as the data server. This seems to be an economical and effective way to manage such small office networks.

The only stand alone office is corporate. Although we still only have less than 10 employees the previous IT person deemed it necessary to run 2 windows 2008R2 servers, 1 as the every day data server, and the other as a data server for the master database that we hold from all the offices.

These servers are not being properly used, they are nothing more than a glorified data server. We are NOT using active directory, nor mail server nor a web server. To me, this seems like buying a 50,000 square foot facility for a 2 man operation.. a huge overkill.

To boot we also have a Dell Poweredge R620 blade that is just sitting by not being used at all...

So, I would like to get the advise of others as to what the best course of action would be in your opinion?

Personally, My idea was to take the poweredge blade, partition it to hold 2 Windows7 copies, then run both the databases through that, this would give me 2 machines with 16GB Ram each and enough power to keep things moving. Am I trying to over simplify things? Is there a security risk I am not seeing with converting the corporate office to a client to client network running Windows 7 Pro?

Thank you for any advice.

Bob

Poweredge R410 fan error

Hi All

I received an alert from R410 server about a fan MOD3A low speed problem. I've got a replacement fan and exchanged it. At next reboot I've done an hardware test, but that fails again. I received IPMI System Event Log Check Test Result: Fail - Error Code 2900:0221 - Msg: IPMI system board: Fan sensor (FAN MOD 3A RPM) below lower critical threshold "System Board".

All fans are rotating, for what I see, at their maximum speed (and doing very very loud noise).

Then I've exchanged the fan with another one of the system fans (n.4), then I've done the hardware test again, and again I've got the same result error code.

What can I do now to solve this?

R710 Perc 6/I SSD ideas

Hi everyone, I need some help upgrade the storage on my R710 :

I currently have a Perc 6/i 256MB cache with 6 15K 300GB SAS HDDs. I'd like to upgrade to the following config if possible:

- 4 3TB HDDs for storage in RAID 10 (or should I go with Raid 5 ?)

- 2 500GB SSDs for system (RAID 1)

I use this server at home as a test lab and for my home network and I have limited budget so I might not be able to buy enterprise class SAS drive .

So can I just buy SATA drives like the Samsung Evo SSDs and some WD Red ? Will it work with the Perc 6i 256 or do I need to upgrade ?

Thank you for your answers !

C2100 won't POST, blinking amber fault led

Hi all, suddenly, my C2100 won't post. I opened it up to take a look and troubleshoot. Upon pressing the power button, I see/hear the fans spin up, the hard drive tray LEDs go green, and then.... it seems to hang and the fault LED blinks amber. There is no signal sent to the monitor. The USB keyboard doesn't look like it's getting power either.

I swapped out both PSUs, reseated RAM sticks, jiggled/reseated all the cable connectors, even tried the jumper trick to clear the CMOS, all to no avail.

Anyone have ideas? Or suggestion how to totally reset everything?

Thanks

Poweredge R610 - Support Assist Enterprise- A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 0 device 0 function 0

Hello Enterprise support

I have the exact error code come up on the LCD of my R610 and in Support Assist Enterprise hardware logs as the thread posted.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/t/20013097

Following Alakara's advice, i ran Support Assist and opened up the XML log files with excel to see the hardware at bus 0 device 0 function 0 and found this. Embedded - Intel Corporation - 5500 I/O Hub to ESI Port.

My question: is the bad hardware an embedded component on the motherboard? What is the quickest solution to replacing this 5500 I/O Hub to ESI Port? My server is out of warranty.

Thanks

Baldemar

Initializing iDrac ...

Hi,

we have a problem with our Dell R320 server. It shows "Initializing iDrac .." when starts and after a while funs are run on full speed and the server reboot itself. Problem is, that server has no iDrac installed. I had been waiting x minutes till server starts and then I updated all firmwares via DVD, but no change. I also tried to clear NVRAM, power off server by removing power cord, press power button for 15seconds, power on server again, no luck.

Do you have any advice what should I do? Server has no warranty.

Thank you for any ideas.
