OpenManage returns “Hostname / IP address is Blank” when submitting valid hostname

I recently installed OpenManage 8 on a CentOS 6.5 system so I can check/change settings in the DRAC setup.   I am able to access the OMSA login page with https://1.2.3.4/1311 without a problem.

After entering the system hostname (my.domain.tld), username and password, then clicking Submit. OpenManage returns

Login failed.
Hostname / IP address is Blank.
Please enter a valid Hostname/IP address.

I've tried using the system's IP address, and verified that I am entering a valid username and password.

Coincidentally, I can click on the 'Manage Web Server' link below the login form, and am able to log in using the same credentials (I'm not asked to enter a hostname on that login page).

Why is OpenManage complaining about a missing hostname when I am absolutely submitting a valid hostname on the login form? I've restarted openmanage, and tried restarting the server also. Same problem happens across multiple browsers and clients (hostname blank).

I've also yum removed/installed srvadmin-all, and continue to have the same problem.

The watchdog timer expired.

I have (5) M1000e with a mixture of M610 blades and a handful of M620 blades.

Last year I had a couple blades generate email alerts with a message similar to:

"Critical Server 16 health changed to a critical state from either a normal or warning state."

Checking the CMC I found the blades were in error state:

"The watchdog timer expired."

I also found the iDRAC log showing the same watchdog error.

Intially it was one blade, then a couple more... and over a week I had a couple dozen blades across multiple M1000e.

I'd rule out physical serer problems... there are a lot of servers experiencing this.  I'd rule out chassis/CMC problems for the same reason.

The blades flash their warning LEDs, and the CMC does the same.

Otherwise the servers are still working without issue.

I am using fairly new firmware, and the blades worked for months without a problem before this started happening.

To "fix" this I have performed a "racadm racreset" which clears the condition in the iDRAC but not the CMC.  I do a "racadm racreset" in the CMC, and the issue clears up everywhere.

It works fine for  couple weeks then starts again.

It only seems to be a problem with the M610 not M620.

Some have ESXi 5.1 and others have ESXi 5.5 -- ESX version seems to be a non-issue, it happens for both versions.

Blades have 6.4.0 BIOS, and 1.6.0.73 firmware.

M1000e has mid-plane 1.1

CMC has A03 hardware and 4.50 firmware.

I reset all blades and CMCs again last night, and within 12 hours had one blade already enter this state.

Any ideas??

Hello,

we already have R730 and R630, but no R330 and R230

Is there any roadmap as to when these servers will be on a market?

R720 with H710P CacheCade Question

$

Trying to redesign my server to maximize database performance. I've not used cachecade before and thought I'd give it a whirl in my server to see if it helps database performance. It's hard to get a good read on the H710P cachecade information and most information Dell puts out is pretty high level overview. I've read that cachecade 2.0 is not available on the H710P but the Dell posting talking about this was very old -- is this still true and only cachecade 1.1 is supported as a read-only cache?

I had a hard time pinning down up-to-date information on supported SSD drives for use with cachecade. I ended up buying a couple Samsung 850 PRO 128GB drives as I did read a few posts saying these worked well although the information was not directly from Dell. Since this is read-only cachecade I assume these ought to last long enough to make it worth it. Replacing these wouldn't be an issue if they wear. Not sure what kind of life to expect on these but presumably it would be decent enough. SLC would only be a reasonable option if MLC drives fail quickly.

The last unknown is how cachecade is applied to virtual devices. Is a cachecaid array global for the entire pool of virtual disks or do you have to associate it with a virtual disk? I specifically want to utilize this for my database server (Sybase ASE 15.7). Right now my Sybase guest is on an 8 disk 15K SAS 300GB RAID10 array. Performance is okay but I'd like to speed it up as the data is critical for accessibility within a reasonable access time.

The good news is I have a test server that I get to test all of this on but not being familiar with cachecade and the best way to get performance I thought I'd ask.

Currently I have 2 arrays (no cachecade).

RAID5 DATASTORE1 = 8x 300GB 10K SAS drives in RAID5 for ESXi host and vmware guests.

RAID10 DATASTORE2 = 8x 300GB 15K SAS drives in RAID10 for Sybase ASE (RHEL6) guest.

Here is what I'm thinking about doing (any advice is appreciated):

R410 replace H700 with PERC 6 intergrated?

Hello.

I have R410 with H700 controller, but have to replace it with PERC 6 intergated (I need PCI-E slot free).

can anyone provide Part Number for PERC 6 intergated, compatible with R410 special RAID slot (white).

I have hotplug BP, if it's does care.

Thanks a lot!

"weak ephemeral diffie-hellman key" error in FF39 prevents OMSA from being accessible

In Firefox version 39, some OMSA web site would give this error message:

An error occurred during a connection to <server>:1311. SSL received a weak ephemeral Diffie-Hellman key in Server Key Exchange handshake message. (Error code: ssl_error_weak_server_ephemeral_dh_key)

I suppose I need to reinstall new version of OMSA, or is it?  I haven't checked yet.  Does new version exist yet?  And is there some "fast and dirty" workaround because it would take me quite some time to update all my OMSA.

Thanks

iDRAC7 racadm command to delete indexed user

iDRAC7 racadm command to delete indexed user?

Background: R720 utilizing the iDRAC7, 1.57.57 firmware

Been trying to find a way to delete a user account from the DRAC interface.  You can add a new user quite easily, but there doesn't seem to be an option to delete a user.

Have searched the web and found the following RACADM command line entry multiple times, but it does not seem to work with iDRAC7...

Syntax:  racadm config -g <groupName> -o <objectName> -i <index 1-16> ""

but when I've attempted to use this command with the NULL entry [""], it isn't accepted

   PS> racadm config -g cfgUserAdmin -o cfgUserAdminUserName -i 3 ""
ERROR: Invalid syntax. An object value must be specified.

Was this ability removed from iDRAC7?  Is there a way to delete a user from iDRAC7?

Dell Poweredge PERC S100 Degraded

$

I have RAID1 set up on a 2008 server.  It was working yesterday but this morning it fails to boot to the operating system as it can not find the hard disk.  No obvious reason for this so I'm assuming random disk failure.

I have accessed the PERC S100 control panel and noted that it has a status of degraded, with disk 0.0 as on-line and disk 0.1 as Ready.

I have two questions

1. Why is it not booting into the operating system.  I thought that that was why it was RAIDed. So when one disk fails the other other still works.  Or does this point to second problem?

2. I understand that my best line of action is to replace disk 0.1 which has the status of "ready".  Can someone confirm these steps.

a. Powerdown,

b. Repalce disk 0.1 with new disk

c. Delete the virtual disk that is automatically created and initialise disk (I assume it is possible to do all this from the PERC S100 management console as I can not boot the operating system to access the open mange software)

d. Rebuild array.

e. Cross fingers and hope server boots!

I have a backup of data (7 days old) but the time to have to rebuild server would be massive if the data off these disks is deleted.  Any advice on best practice for this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

R720 Intel Gigabit 4P I350-t Adapter Firmware Update

Hi,

I have recently upgraded all of the firmware on my R720 to the latest versions using the Lifecycle controller. All worked well except for the PSU and Intel Gigabit 4P I350-t Adapter. After resetting the iDRAC I was able to update the PSU but was still struggling with the NIC.

I thought that I would try to update it in stages. I successfully went from 13.0.0 to 13.5.6 then I tried to go from 13.5.6 to 14.5.8. This failed during the update with the messages:

SUP0517: Unable to update the i350 QP 1G ADAPTER firmware to version 14.5.8.

I have done a reset of the iDRAC and performed a cold boot but the iDRAC is not able to detect the NIC. I have looked in the BIOS and it sees the NIC but it thinks that it has no Firmware.

Looks like I have bricked it.

Any help would be appreciated.

RemoteOffice VMware server

I have just received a new PowerEdge R630, with 8 x 300 GB physical disks.

The system came pre-configured with 2 Virtual Disks, both RAID-5, Size = 1843 GB and 108 GB.

The Controller is a PERC H730 Mini

VMware is on SD Card For IDSDM

The server is to be used for a RemoteOffice VM server with local storage.

Why is it configured with 2 Virtual Disks, instate of just one?

Is there a size limit I have overlooked.

Possible bug with Dell OMSA and WMI hardware polling

$

I believe this is an OMSA related issue so here goes. I tried searching the forums for this but I am not sure I was entering the correct terms for this issue.

I am in the process of starting to use SolarWinds Orion platform to monitor our servers via WMI and came across this strange issue. After configuring a particular server in SolarWinds, I can see it showing data for everything except the hardware polling where it displays this error:

Access denied Scope: w.x.y.z\root\cimv2\dell[\domain\account] ErrorCode: 0x80041003

I set it up this way: Solarwinds [hereafter SW] monitoring account is a AD domain user. The account is a member of a AD domain global security group. This group is a member of the local administrators group on all the servers so through this mechanism, the monitoring account is a local admin. And it works, I have all the permissions and rights of a local admin, except I get the error above in SW for hardware polling.

After many trial and error attempts, I found the answer. Incredibly, if I add the monitoring user as an enumerated member to the local admin group instead of relying on group membership to confer administrative permissions, it works. SW is now happy and i can see all the hardware data. I can break it again by removing the user as a direct member of the local admin group. So my question is: Why do I have to do this? Shouldn't being part of a AD security group in the local admin group of a server do the same thing? Am I missing something here? Feels like this is a bug in OMSA?

Relevant info:

Most servers are running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, one is on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and one is running Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise x64.

Wbemtest [run from the SW server to target server being monitored] worked as expected when the account was getting administrative perms through group membership. I could even run successful querys against the server which makes me think this is not a WMI issue.

Servers are a mix of PE R710/720's all running the latest OMSA version [8.1.0.1 for Windows 2008, 7.3.0 for Windows 2003].

Dell R310: What do the fans do with unknown PCIe cards?

$

Hi,

I'm looking at replacing my aging modified PE2950 gen 3 with a server that is more power efficient, while still retaining 2 PCIe slots.

My use case is not particularly normal in that it is for a home setup and that the server will be baremetal install to act as my AD and TVServer for the house.  As such, I need to be able to add two DVB-S2 cards to the chassis to receive the satellite feed.

I know that with certain other manufacturers, installing unknown PCIe cards cause their fans to go nuts as they assume the cards are overheating.  How do Dell servers deal with this, in particular the R310?  The R310 appears to meet all my needs and I think would be perfect.

Also, until I removed the Perc 6/I from my R410 it was quite noisy, how does the Dell R310 fare for fan noise?  The system, along with everything else will be in a rack mount away from the living areas in the basement. I think I could cope with anything up to around 60dba but above that, it would be too noisy... I appreciate that 1u rack systems are not designed around being quiet but some genuine feedback here would be great.

Any help you can provide, or direction is appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

Expanding Disk Space on PowerEdge R710

I want to expand the disk space on an R710 with a PERC H700 Integrated.

It is currently configured with:

2 (3.5" SAS 6Gb/s 15000 RPM) drives in a RAID-1 For OS.

4 (3.5" SAS 6Gb/s 15000 RPM) drives in a RAID-10 For Data.

How to achieve expanding RAID-1 and RAID-10 without loosing the data?

Also what HDD's is recommended for the upgrade? NL-SAS or SAS?

Our R710 server failed to  power up with E1000 failsafe voltage error & E122E Onboard Regulator Failed messages displayed on the front LCD panel.

I first checked both power supplies and they seemed OK with the LED lights showing green.

I was advised to replace the mother board which I have done.

I have held the power button down for 60 seconds (with the power cables disconnected) and then tried powering up the server.

The same problem - server does not power up and the same error messages are displayed on the front LCD panel.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

installing M610 with vmware esxi 6.0

Does anyone have vmware esxi 6.0 running on M610 blades?

The M610 shows up on the vmware compatability list and Dell has a custom .iso for 6, but 6 is not an option under the Life Cycle Controller and it gives a PSOD when just installing from the custom .iso

We have tried this on several blades, all with up to date firmware, life cycle controller, OS deployment drivers etc.
