We have a Dell T110 that has been running 24/7 for the past 6 years as a point of sale server. Because it runs proprietary software, we are forced to use a 32 bit version of Windows 2003. However, I was fortunate enough to get an ATI card, Creative sound card, and USRobotics fax modem working in this thing for most of that time. But suddenly, I am beginning to get stop errors! I pulled everything except the video card and modem. However, even with this configuration, I still see PCI bus, RAM, CPU, and Platform errors in Windows Management Instrumention (WMI) through event viewer.
Given the age of the system, is there a good way to potentially diagnose if I have a failing card somewhere or if the motherboard itself is going? Contacting Pro Support, I was told there was pretty much nothing they could do since I was using hardware that was not certified for use in this server. Any suggestions on pinning down the specificity of the issue?
And on kind of a tangent, this is a T110 first generation server. Because of cost limitations, we are unable to upgrade the entire server and its linked nodes. If this thing went down, would it be possible to transplant the PERC S300 controller and its drives to a T110 second generation and just keep running from there? The spec from the two servers seem similar enough that I somehow think it might work. Has anyone ever done something so drastic?
